4 words and 5 ideas

This was our fourteenth session at Broad Oak Village Hall.

We discussed some ideas together 

and then I explained that I had substituted some new words in our guided practice.

We practised this modified Sitting Meditation and also our Walking Meditation.

Four new words

The modifications I have made are subtle but I hope they help to deepen your practise or make it easier for those who are coming to the pracise anew.

In the second breathing gatha the words Deeper and Slower are replaced by Natural and Soft.

This step is an opportunity to practise being aware of our breathing without getting involved in our breathing. It is tricky to do at first. The fact that you are aware of breathing will to some extent influence this action. As with many aspects of meditation you can vary the balance between observation and control.

It reminds me of the observer effect in physics.

The new guided meditation also substitutes;

  • Joy for Freedom
  • Happiness with Contentment

It is just for the next month.

Five Mindfulness Trainings

Originating in the Five precepts of Buddhism

These precepts are reworked for the modern world by Thay. 

Followers of the Plum Village tradition will commit to upholding them as part of their mindfullness practice.

  •  The first training is to protect life, to decrease violence in oneself, in the family and in society.
  • The second training is to practice social justice, generosity, not stealing and not exploiting other living beings.
  • The third is the practice of responsible sexual behaviour in order to protect individuals, couples, families and children.
  • The fourth is the practice of deep listening and loving speech to restore communication and reconcile.
  • The fifth is about mindful consumption, to help us not bring toxins and poisons into our body or mind.

OMG - We are in the World Cup Final

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 vs 🇿🇦

Against all odds we beat the All Blacks and are in the rugby final on Saturday.

Having thought for only a few moments I have decided that I have to watch this instead of meditate.

2nd November session is Cancelled

Followed by the 23rd of November.
